Participant Accountability Standard

In the interest of transparency and communication in both the planning and execution of SNAFI®, we are releasing this statement:

Please be your own advocate and always use your best judgement when selecting a shop to get tattooed. We are going to have even more AMAZING artists and talented hosts because we have opened up the participation field to more than one tattoo shop per city. We recognize that this has left space for fumbles so we count on the community to remain diligent and active as SNAFI® participants.

We advocate for survivors in a way that is not exclusive. To maintain this standard, we assist and guide any shops which support their communities while functioning within our guidelines. A space which offers safety and comfort to one individual may not offer safety and comfort to another and we endorse your instincts in choosing the shop where you will get tattooed. This extends to style and technical preferences as well.

When we compile our list of participants, here is what we are establishing:

  • This tattooer/shop has signed up to participate in SNAFI® and donate 100% of their event proceeds to a select local organization which works for prevention of and/or healing and justice from sexual violence.

  • This tattooer/shop has completed this year’s registration requirements.

We believe these agreements encourage learning and growth from our participants and display an intention to create a healthy and accountable work environment.

Nevertheless, this event would not exist if sexual misconduct was not prevalent in the tattoo industry. In the event that you see a participant with whom you have had an uncomfortable or unsafe experience, we encourage you to contact us.

All evidence-based disclosures are confidential and will result in SNAFI® asking the tattooer/shop to step back, refrain from participation that year, and create an action/healing plan. If said tattooer/shop wishes to rejoin SNAFI® at a later date, evidence of work and growth will be evaluated and assessed before they are welcomed back. Your safety and comfort is our utmost priority.
